Neutral colors are in fashion due to
the lightness and versatility they lend to spaces. However, sometimes we
need to see, in our home environments, more exuberant tones and with
character. Still, we don't always dare to risk it. So, what if we get
tired of them? Or if we don't know how to conjugate them later? We
fully understand the hesitation, although we feel that - both in life and in
decoration - it is good to step out of our comfort zone from time to time.
Today, we are going to visit one of
these very little consensual colors: red. Some love it, others would never
experience it at home except in notes. But let's not just talk about
red. We will show you the color applied in bathrooms. What does it
tell us about red bathrooms? Are they a yes or a no for you? In any
case, the bathroom, being a small room and not a social and living
area, is good for experimenting. After all, we don't spend that much time
inside it, so the probability that color will saturate us in the short term is
less.
1. The
symbolism of red
All colors give us different
sensations and decorators and interior designers know
it. It is not by chance that the living and rest areas of the house, the
softer colors are favored by creating peaceful atmospheres that invite rest and
relaxation. On the other hand, in the office or in the kitchen, there are
already more cheerful tones that awaken and stimulate. As is natural,
there is no golden rule regarding the use of colors. It will always have
to do with the taste of each one, with the style and characteristics of the
house (whether it is big or small, dark or bright, and so on).
Red is a sensual color, par
excellence. We associate it with fire, love, lust and heat. At the
same time, it is a color full of energy that perfectly suits daring, assertive,
determined and challenging people.
There are different shades of red,
some more vibrant than others, but all have the power to make spaces more
welcoming. In the rustic style, for example, red is often used, especially
carmine red, rust red, falu red or brownish red. A rustic
bathroom with wooden furniture in these shades is charming.
2. How
can you incorporate red in the bathroom and combine it with other colors?
To incorporate red in your bathroom,
you have two options: either take the color to its fullest and use it
expressively or introduce it only in the details.
If you like the first option, then
bet on red furniture and / or on walls painted in red or covered with mosaics
in this color. We do not advise you, however, to create a monochrome division. Unless
you want a somewhat dramatic bathroom with a strong impact, let the space
breathe and red intervenes with other colors.
3. Original
ideas to introduce red in the bathroom in a less definitive way
When choosing furniture or coverings
in red for our bathroom, the commitment is greater because the investment is
also higher. We hardly install any furniture to be replaced a few months
later.
Now, another way to integrate red in
your bathroom is through wallpaper. There is still the misconception that
wallpaper cannot be used in bathrooms. However, nowadays, with the
technological evolution, wallpapers are already printed capable of resisting
the humid and hot environment of this space, with vinyl being the most popular.
Wallpaper is a great way to create a
focal point in your bathroom. You can place it on a single wall (for
example, on the wall behind the washbasin) and when you get tired, you can
easily remove it, or at least, more easily than if it was ceramic.
But even cheaper and easier to use
than wallpapers are decorative sticker vinyl. Vinyl can be applied to any
surface without roughness and can last up to eight years. In addition,
they do not leave any marks after removal and can be cleaned with a damp
cloth. Value a wall or doors in your bathroom cabinet with vinyl and see
if it makes a difference.
4. The
importance of lighting in spaces with strong colors
Lighting - natural and artificial -
is always important. Red has several tones and applications, but, at the
outset, it is not a color that opens up a space and makes it appear wider.
In that sense, lighting cannot be
neglected. If your bathroom has an entry point for natural light, then
make the most of it and do not obstruct it in any way. In fact, you should
even position the mirrors strategically, so that they distribute this light
better, and bet on glazed surfaces (on the shower cabin doors, for example).
Then focus on the artificial light
that should appear at various points. Nowadays, LEDs are
the most used, due to their economy and durability. You can have
several spots embedded in the ceiling and complement them with wall
lights that are especially important in the area of the washbasins next to
the mirrors (s). On the other walls, you can also install
appliques. To emphasize the space, and since you had the audacity to bet
on red, finish off the decoration with, for example, a design lamp.
It is also worth noting that there
are shades of red that open up and give more light to spaces than
others. Among them, we highlight coral red and orange red.
5. What
professionals can help you with this project?

asset to hire a bathroom designer to carry out your
project. A decorator's job may also be
timely. Consult our list of professionals and narrow down your search by
