MAKE A SMALL ROOM WITH HIGH CEILINGS LOOK BIGGER

The addition of a high ceiling can create a bigger feeling on its own; however, there are several other decorating techniques that make an area feel visually bigger than its actual measurements indicate. By incorporating a monochromatic color scheme, reducing clutter and adding a mirror into the decor, any room can feel a touch bigger.

WALLS

Paint the walls a light-weight hue. Lighter colors often make an area appear larger, so apply a coat of neutral-colored paint to all or any four walls. Choose a color like soft grey or light tan to lighten the space to its maximum. Neutral hues are an ideal backdrop for any room, as they coordinate with pastels or bright shades. Paint moldings and doors a crisp, white shade with warm undertones to feature additional light to the space.

CEILING

Accentuate the high ceiling to make an area with added visual interest. Nail wood panels on the ceiling to offer the space dimension and texture. Reproduction tin ceilings are an honest candidate for little rooms with a vintage or traditional style. Paint the ceiling a darker coordinating color, like eggplant, to supply contrast to the decor, and function an idea for accent colors within the space. Add rough-hew ceiling beams to decorate a country decor.

MIRRORS

Choose an out sized mirror, and hang it on the room's focal-point wall, like behind a couch or bed, or above a hearth. Mirrors reflect light during a room and make it feel more spacious at an equivalent time. Position a mirror opposite a window to feature optimal light to the space. Include varieties with frames that match the color of the walls to scale back its visual weight, which makes the space feel larger also.

ORGANIZATION

Arrange and organize the space. An area that's well organized and freed from visual clutter often feels larger, so make reducing clutter a primary goal. Store seasonal clothing in plastic containers under a bed. Place a maximum of three items on the counter tops for a clean appearance. Store bathroom towels in wicker baskets. Place extra pillows and throws during a recreation room into a wooden chest. Place a closed storage cabinet during a dining room to carry dishes and glasses during a way that hides them visually for a little room with a more expansive appearance.

FLOORING

Incorporate same-toned flooring. To make a bigger space, lay down carpet that's one or two values lighter than the walls. Flooring reflects available sunlight during a room, so it's important to settle on a light-weight shade to form the space feel bigger. If wood flooring are preferred, add styles without bold color variegation or pronounced grain patterns, and choose varieties during a shade that's a couple of values lighter than the walls also. Area rugs with tone-on-tone patterns or textures are perfect to offer the space added visual interest. Position under conversational, dining or bed areas to assist anchors the space for a little room with optimal visual appeal.
