Clogging pipes ideas for your Home

Clogged pipes. Who has never dealt with this problem at home? We do not always make careful use of the washbasin, bathtub, shower cabin or dishwasher and, even if we are cautious, it is impossible to prevent hair, food scraps or other substances from running through.

Obviously, it is important to be careful, not only to preserve the sewage network of the place where we live, but also nature. Even so, sooner or later, we are faced with this bitterness and realize, for example when we are bathing, that the water is not draining properly or that it is flowing very slowly.

When a drain is clogged, you need to act quickly. Delaying the resolution of the situation will only make it worse and what was a clogged pipe will soon become a pipe that has burst. In addition, it is not practical, in our day-to-day, to have to be constantly bored with this. After all, we want to take a shower at will without the base filling in three strokes or brush our teeth without the sink becoming a small tsunami.

Today, we share with you some tips to solve this problem without having to call a professional.

1. Use a plunger

Almost all houses have a plunger. Do you see what it is? We are talking about that object with a wooden handle that ends in a rubber. This object unclogs the pipes through a suction system that results from the manual force applied to the cable. It is a very effective tool that normally unlocks the pipes in just a few seconds. Before using the plunger, make sure that there is enough water in the drain. It is the movement of water - up and down - that releases the tube. If the red rubber is covered with water, unblocking will occur easily.

2. Unclog with boiling water

In addition to being simple, this is an ecological way to unclog pipes. Put boiling water in a pan and pour it through the drains that are causing problems. The water should be poured in a phased manner: put a little and wait a few seconds; put another piece and wait again; and so on. To prevent clogging, you can do this once a week on the different drains in the house. However, be careful not to burn yourself. After boiling the water, place it, for example, in a kettle. It is safer and more practical.

4. Try a mixture of salt, vinegar and baking soda

Salt, vinegar and baking soda are three ecological and biodegradable products. Try these solutions before using chemicals:

- ¾ cup of baking soda + ½ cup of vinegar - cover the drain with a cloth and let the mixture work for half an hour. Then, pour warm water;
- ½ glass of salt + ½ glass of vinegar + ½ glass of baking soda - pour the mixture down the drain and then a pot of boiling water;
- 1 glass of vinegar + ½ glass of baking soda + 2 to 3 tablespoons of salt - pour into the drain and cover for 30 minutes. Finish with warm water.

3. Dish detergent followed by boiled water or boiled water followed by baking powder

Dish washing detergent can be an excellent ally to unclog a pipe (as long as it is not filled with water), especially in the kitchen where fat accumulates. Pour ¼ cup of dish washing liquid and then boil the water. To facilitate the process, use a plunger, but protect yourself from splashes.

You also have the option of pouring two tablespoons of baking powder into the drain and then pouring the boiled water. An effervescence will be generated that will unblock the pipe.

5. Unclog with a wire hanger or a piece of wire

For this technique, you will need a wire hanger (we bet you have one around the house) or a piece of wire. In the case of the first, you must unfold it, straighten it and shape one end to form a hook (search Google for images to see how it looks). The piece of wire must also have a hook on the end, like a hook. Then, just put this hook down the drain and start “fishing” all the crap that is blocking it. You can finish the task with warm or boiled water or with another of the solutions that we talked about here.

6. Lye

First of all, protect yourself. Lye can burn you, so you must handle it with your eyes and hands protected with glasses and gloves, respectively. Buy the lye at a construction store and use 3 cups of lye for 3 or 4 liters of water. Mix them well with a wooden spoon. When the mixture starts to heat up and boil, it should be poured. Leave it to act for 20-30 minutes and repeat if necessary.

7. Remove and clean the pipe

Serious blocks call for serious measures. For this, you will need a bucket, wrench or screwdriver and a metal cable or hanger. Place the bucket under the sink under the siphon (piece that forms a "U"). Remove the siphon (which may be attached with nuts or screws) and, when doing so, see if the bucket is immediately under it because there may be water accumulated. To remove it, you must rotate it counterclockwise.

Decorate or take a photo at each step so you can know how to assemble the pieces again. Look inside the siphon and remove the substances that are causing the blockage. If it is not dirty, check the pipe with which it is in direct contact on the wall. To clean this pipe, you will need the metal cable or hanger. After cleaning the tubes,

8. Vacuum cleaner and water

A vacuum cleaner and water can also be useful. You must set it to suck up liquids and cover the vent. Then, place it down the drain as firmly and tightly as possible. Finally, turn it on at maximum and let the vacuum cleaner suck up the dirt that is clogging the tubes. It doesn't always work, but it's worth a try.

What you MUST NOT use to unclog pipes: dispel myths

Unclog with Cola Cola and Mentos - yes, it is true that this mixture generates a high pressure that can clean the pipes, but this pressure can be excessive and burst them completely. Worse than a clogged pipe, has to spend money to compose this unnecessary damage.

Unclog with coffee - dear reader, coffee can “unclog” sleep in the morning, but it does not work to clean the pipes. On the contrary, they can clog them even more. To say that coffee beans work to unblock pipes is, quite simply, a lie.

What professionals can help you?

If the problem is serious, you should, of course, hire a plumber. Homemade tricks may not work, and if so, you need to look at the problem more seriously. We give you access to some plumber contacts.
