DESIGN A SMALL LIVING SPACE WITH LARGE FURNITURE
You do not need to sacrifice style
and quality when designing a little space. Keep things simple and stick with
the fundamentals of excellent design to make an area filled with finesse.
Furniture style, color choices and window treatments play a pivotal role in
cohesively designing a little mensurable. And when it involves small spaces,
less can mean such a lot more.
FURNITURE
COLOR
A small space requires light-colored
upholstered furniture with gentle patterns within the fabric. Pastel and
neutral colors make small rooms seem lighter and bigger. Dark-colored furniture
or heavily patterned upholstery weighs an area down, making it feel heavy and
little.
Furniture styles also play a
neighborhood in defining a room's size. Sofas and chairs with legs allow light
to filter through rock bottom. Legs create visually larger spaces because the
ground is often seen underneath. Additionally, glass and metal coffee and end
tables appear transparent, making the space seem more open.
ROOM
COLOR IMPORTANCE
Like furniture color, wall color
influences the design and feel of an area. Paint the walls and ceiling in
light, neutral colors to force the walls into the background and make the space
appear larger.
Deep, dark wall colors bring the
walls in, creating a little feel during a large room, while making a little
room seem even smaller. White walls keep an area from feeling and searching too
constricted. Adding splashes of color with room accessories forces the
attention to wander, making the space feel more expansive.
LIGHTING
Nothing visually enlarges an area
quite using natural light. Leave the doorway of natural light through windows
or skylights whenever possible. Without natural light, an area feels closed and
cramped. Add lamps and wall-mounted lights to form the space appear larger when
it doesn't have enough natural lighting.
THINK
VERTICALLY
Draw the attention upwards during a
small space. By doing so, you create the illusion that the space is larger and
taller than it actually is. You’ll also trick the attention into making the
space feel as if it's taller by adding a lighter colored paint to the ceiling
than the paint used on the walls.
